Meet IDHA's New President: Megan McClurg
Well.. Where do I start? I was born and raised in Jerome, Idaho by Dusty and Christy Addey. After three years of being the only child they decided, against my will, to add to the family a baby boy, Andrew Addey. Yep, I was a big sister and I thought it was neat, until they brought him home. After about three days of being a big sister I was tired of it and asked my parents when they were going to take him back to the hospital. I attended Jerome High School where I participated in several activities included Key Club, Student Council, Student Counselor, Cheerleading and volleyball. At my high school graduation to my amazement I received the Senior Most Award which I am still to this day proud of. My next big adventure in life was college! I had decided on the College of Southern Idaho and I was going to be a computer specialist, I then changed my mind to a RAD Tech and then I really was not sure what I wanted to do. One day I was talking to a co worker of mine and she was majoring in Dental Hygiene and I thought EWWWW how could you want to be in someone's mouth all day. Little did I know I would apply and then be accepted into the Community College of Denver Dental Hygiene Program in Denver, CO. When I first looked into hygiene I was not sold but I knew I wanted to be in health care. The deciding factor came when I was hired on as an assistant for a periodontist. Working with him was not only very educational but also humbling. He not only cared about his patients but educated them and I thought to myself I want to help people through education. I would get a thrill by giving people education and then seeing the significant improvement. So there it was, my future decided, I headed off to Colorado. After graduating hygiene school I decided to come back home. I now work for two offices with very knowledgeable and caring dentists. I truly could not ask for better bosses. After settling into my career I realized at the age of 24 I had a very promising career but was very behind in the marriage and child bearing department. Hygiene school does not really allow for dating or a social life. After several attempts at relationships I had given up and that is when I met my future husband, Michael McClurg. Every day I fall more and more in love with him and could not be more blessed to have a wonderful, understanding husband. We are currently expecting a baby girl who should be joining our family sometime the beginning of February 2012. I think that about sums up my life in a nut shell. I am excited for the 2011/2012 IDHA Presidency term and hope that I can fulfull the members expectations.
Thank you.
