Biofilms are complex polymicrobial communities that contribute to many chronic diseases, including periodontal disease and caries. Biofilms play a significant role in the development of chronic wounds, delayed wound healing and persistent re-infections and resist traditional antibiotic therapy. New combination therapies are emerging that treat Mother Nature’s most unique microbial challenges.

Patients often suffer needlessly from erosion and hypersensitivity, problems that profoundly affect quality of life and create enormous clinical challenges. Exposed dentin, dry mouth syndrome and acidic diets contribute directly to the rising incidence melting tooth syndrome. Anne Nugent Guignon, RDH, MPH is an internationally recognized speaker who is passionate about creating an environment that promotes more exciting careers for dental professionals. Her interactive programs are timely, straightforward, practical and fun and cover such diverse topics as ergonomics, new products, advanced micro-ultrasonic instrumentation, new diagnostic and therapeutic devices, patient comfort issues and career burnout.
She received her BS in Dental Hygiene in 1971 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. During her graduate studies at the University of Texas School of Public Health she conducted research into the areas of dental hygiene career satisfaction and continuing education activity and received her Masters degree in 1988.
Anne is the Senior Consulting Editor for RDH Magazine, author of the monthly “Comfort Zone” column and writes feature articles RDH and many other publications. She holds an adjunct faculty position at the University of Texas Dental Branch-Houston and has authored dental hygiene textbook chapters on ergonomics and power driven instrumentation. Anne has practiced clinical dental hygiene in Houston, Texas for 39 years, is an active ADHA member and the recipient of the 2004 Sonicare-RDH Mentor of the Year Award and was recently honored with the 2009 ADHA Colgate Irene Newman Award for professional achievement in advancing the art and science of dental hygiene.
