Course Description: An introduction to the changes from the 1999 periodontal disease classification system. Learn how this new system can improve your comprehension of disease progression, aid in diagnosing and understanding how various risk factors can affect the overall health of your patients.
Objectives:
-Examine the new model for identifying and diagnosing periodontal diseases that introduces a multi-dimensional staging and grading system, similar to the method used in oncology.
-Gain a deeper appreciation for the complex nature of each patient and his/her individual response to treatment.
-Identify the nuances of the new system and gain a comfort level with the “shades of gray” required to implement it.
-Practice staging and grading together as a group.
